Preface
What is the force that has driven men and women through the centuries and of all walks of life to attempt to dissect, define, and classify their existence in this universe? Why have thousands of books been written challenging popular beliefs? Surely it is our very nature that compels us to look beyond what has been handed down to us by our predecessors. Nothing was ever meant to stay the same but to run its course and become a new layer in the foundation of time.
During May of 1993, while I painted for an upcoming show titled"America's New Surrealist", I began a furious bout of writing: new theories, poems, and journal entries. Out of this storm of black ink came a theory I later titled "Tenth Dimensional Theology." This new personal theology surprised me. How could I call myself a true Surrealist when by beliefs did not coincide with those which made up the basis of Surrealism?
After elaborating further on my new theology, the first solid concept that distinguished itself from Surrealism appeared. This initial theory I called the Reality Loop. The reality loop formed the first building block of a personal artistic statement I was to later call Midrealism.
For over six years, I have expanded this definition until I have found it necessary to condense it all into a single manifesto. This manifesto consists of theories, journal entries, poems, and sketches. I offer it with the hope of bringing a better understanding the those around me of the new world I have uncovered. I also wish to address the most repeated question I have been asked, "How does Midrealism differ from the 1920's Surrealist movement."
I hope this book answers any questions that might arise concerning Midrealism. In all honesty, I hope this manifesto not only brings the reader enjoyment but also helps to free the reader from any restraints which might inhibit the exploration of his/her own creative mind.
